HOW TO TELL IF YOUR PEARLS ARE REAL
Look for minor imperfections. Real pearls are only rarely "perfect". Usually, they'll have small blemishes or irregularities in their shape. Imitation pearls are almost always "too perfect" .
Real pearls usually have drill holes with sharp edges (like a hollow cylinder). Fakes often have rough or rounded edges. Fake pearls may also bow outward at the surface of the pearl, rather than being perfectly cylindrical. Chipped paint or coating around the hole is a good indication that the pearl is fake.
Even when the weather is hot, true pearls have a sense of cool. Plastic beads generally feel warm.
An easy way to tell if your pearl is real is trying to rub it against your tooth, with a side to side motion. If the pearl is real it will feel sandy or gritty. If the pearls are fake, they will have a slip or smooth surface.
